*She’s Funny That Way* starts with a mess and spends the rest of the movie making it messier.

It’s clever, a little old-fashioned, packed with recognizable faces, and built around the simple idea that if you put enough people with bad timing in the same place, eventually everything falls apart.

In a funny way.

## What It’s About

Imogen Poots plays Izzy, a young woman working as an escort in New York who is hired by a Broadway director played by Owen Wilson. After he offers her a substantial amount of money to quit and pursue acting instead, their lives become a lot more entangled than either of them expects.

From there, the movie starts stacking relationships on top of relationships.

There are actors, directors, therapists, exes, current spouses, people sleeping with people they probably shouldn’t be sleeping with, and several characters who have no idea just how closely connected all of them are.

That’s where the fun is.

This is basically a screwball comedy built around misunderstandings, coincidence and increasingly uncomfortable encounters. The cast is ridiculous: Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston, Kathryn Hahn, Will Forte, Rhys Ifans and more.

But Imogen Poots is the standout.

She’s funny, charming and just strange enough to make Izzy feel like someone who could genuinely stumble into this whole mess and somehow keep moving through it.

The movie keeps throwing people together in combinations that probably shouldn’t work, and somehow they do.

## Who It’s For

If you like ensemble comedies where the humor comes from people colliding with each other rather than a constant stream of jokes, *She’s Funny That Way* is worth a look.

It’s clever without feeling overly clever, silly without becoming stupid, and the cast clearly understands the kind of movie they’re in.

There’s a lightness to it that I liked.

And Imogen Poots is great.

She basically holds the whole thing together.

💡

Clever, funny and loaded with familiar faces, but Imogen Poots is the reason the whole thing works.
